Hello to our beautiful Haakaa community, and welcome to Meet Our Haakaa Mums & Bubs! We’ve created this space as a chance for you to share with everyone, in your own words, something about your breastfeeding journeys – the ups, the downs, the issues and the solutions you’ve found. Today, we’re absolutely thrilled to be joined by Lisa and her daughter Ayla! Here Lisa shares her story of some of the experiences she and her daughter have had building up her supply, and how the Gen 1 Breast Pump has helped her to become confident, relaxed, and more at ease with understanding her body.

Hi Haakaa mums! I’m Lisa, and I’d love to share a little about my breastfeeding journey. I’m a first-time mum to my beautiful 5-month-old daughter, Ayla. We’ve been learning and growing together on this journey, and I’ve discovered that each breast has its own personality! Ayla definitely prefers the “slow-flow boob” because the other one tends to spray in her face or make her gag. It’s been such a funny and eye-opening experience figuring out which side works best for her, almost like she’s choosing between different flavours each feed.
In the beginning, I was struggling with expressing milk. I was using an electric pump for about a month and felt like I was constantly attached to it; pumping after every feed because that’s what we were advised to do, while also drinking lactation blends to try and increase my supply. It was really time-consuming and exhausting. A friend suggested I try the Gen. 1 Haakaa Pump (she told me it was simple, gentle, really effective and it worked for her), and honestly, it changed everything. I noticed a huge difference! It was so simple and gentle compared to my electric pump, and I started collecting milk effortlessly, especially when I attached it while feeding. I began to understand my body and milk flow better, and I no longer felt pressured to pump constantly.
Now I use the Haakaa on my “good boob” while the electric pump is on my “dud boob” that doesn’t express much, or I pop the Haakaa on while I’m breastfeeding to catch the letdown. It’s so simple, gentle, and effective – I finally started collecting milk without all the stress. It’s helped me make the most of every feed, and I actually enjoy the process now! I’ve since learnt to understand my body more and only pump when my breasts tell me they need to be expressed.

It has completely transformed my experience, from thinking about giving her formula if I can’t express enough, to fully just breast milk now. I can finally relax and focus on feeding my baby rather than worrying about output. I pump mainly in the mornings or whenever my breasts feel quite full during a feed, and it feels so much more natural and in tune with my body.
I’ve also learnt that expressing just doesn’t work for one of my breasts – it’s simply meant to be fed on, not pumped – and that’s okay. The Haakaa has helped me understand my own rhythm, trust my body more, and make breastfeeding feel easy and enjoyable again. It gave me confidence, helped me build a freezer stash, and most importantly, made the whole experience more relaxed and rewarding for both me and Ayla.
The Haakaa was recommended to me, and I absolutely recommend it to every breastfeeding mum I know! It’s such a simple, affordable, and effective tool that can make a huge difference, especially in those early weeks when every drop counts. I love that it’s quiet, gentle, and easy to use. There are no cords, no noise, no fuss.
It’s perfect for catching milk effortlessly during a feed or using on the go. It helped me make the most of my supply, understand my body better, and took away so much of the stress that came with pumping. It’s honestly a must-have for any breastfeeding journey. Thank you for creating something that makes such a difference for mums like me.
