Haakaa Breastfeeding Nipple Shield

$26.50

Sorry, not enough stock available

The Haakaa Breastfeeding Nipple Shield is a world-first design made of 100% soft silicone, with an extended teat that puts space between your nipple and your baby’s mouth.

If your little one bites down, pulls away, or if you have sore or cracked nipples, you will still be able to breastfeed with ease and comfort. Our Nipple Shields suction onto your breast, giving you a hands-free breastfeeding experience.

Available with a round or triangle base, the Haakaa Breastfeeding Nipple Shield allows you to experience breastfeeding without the worry of discomfort and pain! The round base is larger and suctions on more easily, making it more suited for those who are new to using nipple shields. The triangle base is smaller, but allows for more skin-to-skin contact, making it more suitable for those who are experienced with using nipple shields.

We offer two teat shapes: the orthodontic teat and the nipple teat. The orthodontic teat is thumb-shaped to replicate the shape of a mother's nipple during breastfeeding, making it more readily accepted by breastfed babies. The nipple teat replicates the silicone teat of a baby bottle and is better suited to help your baby transition from breast to bottle.

Our Orthodontic Shield has an opening that's 28mm in diameter for your nipple.
Our Bottle Nipple Shield has an opening that's 23mm in diameter for your nipple.

This product is designed for mothers who are physically unable to breastfeed due to sore or cracked nipples and should only be used in the interim while you heal. If you are able to breastfeed successfully and experience slight discomfort, we suggest using our traditional nipple shields as a protective alternative. If you have flat or inverted nipples, have a look at our Silicone Inverted Nipple Aspirators.

It saved my breastfeeding experience

I’d like to preface to say that I can only speak from my experience: I bought two of these nipple shields (round base bottle teat), three or four weeks before giving birth and I’m so glad I did. I expressed with my first and wanted to be able to breastfeed with my second as I felt I’d be able to form a better attachment and because expressing was a pain. I had been told previously that I had flat/shallow nipples and that I may struggle to breastfeed, I tried very briefly with my first and he absolutely would not latch. My second latched beautifully for the first two days, however was given finger feeds and a couple bottle feeds while we were in the hospital and unfortunately those couple instances were enough for her to form a preference, by day three she would not latch at all and I was incredibly distressed by the end of the day. Multiple midwives tried to get her to latch but she’d just lay there with her mouth open and not suck at all. I tried the medela shields and they worked for maybe three feeds (and using the word “worked” is generous), as soon as I had a let down from hearing her cry the medela shields would slide right off - I can’t stress how many times I said I hated those shields. I finally remembered buying these and figured that it was worth giving them a go as I’d tried everything else at that point and the only other option in my eyes was to start expressing again (which I really really didn’t want to do). My little one finally went on to the boob! That was two weeks ago and aside from the occasional bottle feed from hubby in the middle of the night when I just need some sleep, I’ve been able to successfully feed her every feed since. One thing to note for the Haakaa product design team: in the very early days of using these, as my little one figured things out, I did get a blood blister on one of my nipples, she thankfully figured things out and stopped sucking so hard but it would be amazing if there was more than just one size of these shields as your nipple does get sucked in to the teat section when little ones get over excited with their sucking (and that’s without suctioning the teat onto the boob). Also having an option for the triangle base with the round teat would be amazing as the inlet to the teat appears to measure wider at the base of the teat (potentially avoiding the friction which causes the blood blisters).

Perfect for sore nipples

I was gifted the Haaka nipple shield for my first born and remember it working so well I’ve since bought a second one for my newborn. She is five days old and has a very shallow latch so my nipples are not doing well. I had been expressing for the last two days and feeding her from bottles but this morning we tried the shield and it was so nice having the skin to skin again in that Breastfeeding position. Thank you for creating such a great product!
